2012 Report: Scotland’s Historic Environment Audit (SHEA 2012)

SHEA 2012 provides an analysis of key trends in the historic environment sector. It shows that Scotland’s historic environment is a unique asset, attracting millions of visitors each year and generating income and jobs across Scotland. Our historic environment makes a valuable contribution to the Scottish Government’s strategic objectives and to the National Performance Framework. The report provides, in one place, key facts and figures that are of practical use for the sector in managing the historic environment and for anyone with an interest in the historic environment.

Indicators for Scotland's Historic Environment Audit - 2008 baseline data tables

We have gathered baseline data (as at 2008) for a series of indicators about Scotland's Historic Environment. Publication of this baseline data is intended to increase awareness about the historic environment in Scotland and to provide a starting point for the future trend analysis about the sector.

A review of existing information for Scotland’s Historic Environment Audit

This report is intended to fulfil the Ministerial instructions to gather available information on the state of the historic environment and to identify gaps in the evidence base. The immediate focus of the report is a survey of associated data, designed to inform future decisions on what baseline data to use for the future audit process. It:

sets out for the first time an analysis of a range of easily accessible, existing information to inform our understanding of the historic environment;
presents a series of possible headline indicators on a range of aspects of the historic environment that might be considered for the audit process; and
highlights gaps in our knowledge base.

The report has been prepared by Historic Scotland with input from colleagues across the historic environment sector.
