Scotland's Historic Environment Audit

Know the past, build the future

Why should the historic environment matter to the public?

The historic environment makes a fundamental contribution to the character and public appeal of our towns and rural areas. Whether historic buildings, monuments or areas, our historic environment is both unique and irreplaceable, contributing to Scotland’s sense of identity.

We can all play a part in conserving our heritage. It is therefore important that we take care of this inheritance now, so that future generations will also be able to enjoy and learn from it.

How can I access information and data?

Historic Scotland is committed to publishing reports and making data available for users' own analysis. This dedicated website will be used to disseminate results from Scotland’s Historic Environment Audit and findings from related research.
